Snowmen Contest
Kids took advantage of the snow and built a snowmen out of snow and dirt. Jem and Scout Finch got the award for making a snowman look like their neighbor, Mr. Avery. The brother and sister took the snow and dirt from Miss Maudie's yard, of course with her permission. Their father, Atticus, told them that they had to take some snow off of the front and put an apron on it so it would not look "too much" like Mr. Avery.
Worst Winter Storm Since 1885
The people of Maycomb have been experiencing an unusually cold winter this year. The last time Maycomb had bad weather was in 1885. The kids enjoyed the snow and for some who never saw snow it was a real surprise. Schools were closed during the heavy snow fall.
Weather Blamed on Bad Kids
According to the Bible, kids who have been bad during the year will cause the seasons to change in wierd ways. Local citizen Mr. Avery provided the following comments to our reporters in the field. "Hasn't snowed in Maycomb since Appomatox". According to the Rosetta Stone, when children disobeyed their parents, smoked cigarettes and made war on each other, then the seasons would change. The Weather Service and Local Ministers could not be reached for comment.
